Mother’s Day is on Sunday (May 8, 2022) of this week, and it’s going to be an exceptional celebration for mothers across the world. The holiday contributes to mothers everywhere.
The Spending
This year, the expenditure on Mother’s Day 2022 will be calculated to be nearly 32 billion dollars of currency, or to be exact, 31.7 billion dollars. For each person, 245 dollars on average will be spent according to a poll, which was conducted by 8,574 American adults. This escalated by 13% from last year’s Mother’s Day. Mother’s Day is currently the third-largest retail holiday in the United States of America.
The History
The first Mother’s Day was celebrated on May 9, 1914 for all mothers, though motherhood celebrations were as early as the Ancient Greeks and Romans. In 1868, Ann Reeves Jarvis organized Mother’s Friendship Day.
Years later, abolitionist and suffragette Julia Ward Howe wrote the “Mother’s Day Proclamation” urging mothers to unite to promote world peace across the United States. Soon, Anna Jarvis conceived Mother’s Day as an honor for the Mothers sacrifices for their children/child.
