The Russo-Ukrainian War is a war fought by Russia, the large country is trying to invade Ukraine. We have seen nothing like this since World War 2.
In 2021 and early 2022, there was a major Russian military build-up around Ukraine's borders. NATO accused Russia of planning an invasion, which it denied. Russian president Putin addressed the growth of NATO as a problem to his country and demanded Ukraine be banned from ever joining the military alliance.
He also expressed views, claiming Ukraine was a historical mistake started by the Soviet Union. On 21 February 2022, Russia officially recognized the two self-proclaimed states in the Donbas, and sent troops to the territories. Three days later, Russia launched a full scale invasion of Ukraine. Russians attack civilians in Ukraine.
The sanctions on Russia have affected the Russian household heavily. Just like the World Wars, countries are apparently taking sides with Russia and Ukraine. Cuba, Syria, and Iran take sides with the Russians. India, traditionally closely linked to Russia in a strategic partnership, did not outright condemn Moscow's actions. Minister of State for External Affairs Rajkumar Ranjan Singh said the country will remain neutral and is hoping for a peaceful solution to the conflict. The US is moving to bolster Poland's defense capabilities amid the rising threat of war between neighboring Ukraine and Russia.
Defense Secretary Austin said the conflict could lead to a flood of refugees. The EU has banned Russian planes. Russians have banned airspace from 36 countries. The countries on Russia's ban are: Austria, Albania, Anguilla (a British overseas territory), Belgium, Bulgaria, the British Virgin Islands, the United Kingdom, Hungary, Germany, Gibraltar, Greece, Denmark (including Greenland, the Faroe Islands and the territorial sea), Jersey, Ireland, Iceland, Spain, Italy, Canada, Cyprus, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Finland, France, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Sweden and Estonia.
US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin confirmed on Friday during a visit to Warsaw that his country was planning to sell 250 tanks to Poland. The announcement comes as the U.S. is currently deploying 4,700 soldiers to Poland. France's Embassy in Kyiv will be moved to Lviv, nearby the Polish border. France's Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian said on a live interview on BFMTV.
